Fathers Day is upon us on the 17th of June (We hope you didn’t forget!). It is very hard for some of us to know what to get for our Dads on their special day……breakfast in bed just isn’t enough in this day and age!

So below are a few ideas for you on how to make this day extra special for the different types of Dads!

Fathers of History

If your Dad is really into his history then North East Wales is the perfect place for them. A trip to Plas Newydd in Llangollen will allow him to learn about the Ladies of Llangollen and also have a Father’s Day lunch at the tearooms (with or without cake!).

A trip to Ruthin Gaol and Nantclwyd y Dre are the perfect places to get the history of all ages with the Gaol covering the prison system of Wales in the early years and then the oldest timber-framed house of Nantclwyd y Dre taking you through the 7 ages of the house set within the historic and beautiful town of Ruthin.

Or taking a trip to Wrexham you can get a real insight into the town at Wrexham Museum. For the more religious of history why not take a trip to St Winefride’s well and drink some of the spirit there and maybe take a quick dip in the waters of the well. A final quiet stop at Gladstone Library is the perfect way of relaxing with a good book at the end of a tiring day, set within the historic library in Hawarden.

Fathers of Adrenaline

Is your Dad an adrenaline junkie? Well you are in the right place. Why not book a day of Kite-Surfing along the coast of Rhyl, as nothing is better than learning a new water-sport on a highly praised beach with brilliant instructors. Or for a slightly more relaxed water-sports why not head down to Llangollen for a bit of Paddle-boarding along the World Heritage Site canal that goes through the town. With many providers such as Llangollen Outdoors or Stand Up Paddle-boarding you’ll be sure to find a booking and maybe look out for some Father’s Day discounts.

Or see the Dee Valley in a different way with White-water activities such as white water rafting on the River Dee or Gorge Walking through the waters of North East Wales, making it an adventurous day for your adventurous Dad.

Fathers of Food

Maybe the best gift that you can give is the gift of a nice night of food in one of our many stunning restaurants in North East Wales. For a coastal food experience why not try the new 1891 Restaurant that has been built with the newly refurbished Pavilion Theatre in Rhyl, as you can enjoy the sea view with your meal. Or for a Fathers Sunday lunch you can visit Cafe R in the market of town of Ruthin (who are running a Father’s Day discount).

For a more fine dining experience why not experience a Michelin Star Restaurant at Tyddyn Llan in Llandrillo set within the beauty of the Dee Valley and home to the great Owain Glyndwr and experience a dining experience that is nationally renowned. Or maybe treat your Dad to a Bison Burger at Rhug Estate Farm Shop and browse some of the local produce that they sell in their shop as a souvenir of your trip.

For more inspiration on local North East Wales food why not see what the Clwydian Range Tourism group have to offer……we already know it’s good but find out for yourselves.
