Llandegla to Bodfari
Following the first leg of your journey, you have travelled 13 miles from your start point in Llangollen. Waking up in Llandegla you need to make sure you have a hearty breakfast so you are ready for the day ahead.
The first climb you will be doing is the lesser known Moel Fenlli. With views of the stunning Clwydian Range and it’s landscape you will feel fully rewarded for waking up and continuing your journey along the Offa’s Dyke Path. Be prepared to ascend this steep mountain as even though it isn’t the tallest within the range, you can be sure to give your calf muscles a full workout whilst ascending this hill.
Once you reach the top and go over the other side you will find yourself in the proximity of the most popular mountain in the range, Moel Famau. Towering right in the centre of the Clwydian Range this ‘Moel’ is the most accessible peak in the whole of North Wales. With the Shepherd’s Hut parked in the car park and been refurbished into a small mobile shop you will be daft not to pop your head in as it is the perfect place to pause and get information about the surrounding area. Add in a piece of cake and warm or cold drink the it is the perfect facility before your walk.
Following your ascent up Moel Famau you will see the summit as the Jubilee Tower is your target as once your at the top you will have a full 360 view of Denbighshire, Flintshire and on a clear day you can see Snowdonia (your next target).
After descending the hill and following the Offa’s Dyke Path signs you will see the next hill for you to climb, Moel Arthur. This hill was the location of an Iron Age Hillfort and still offers a stunning view of the area, so that is 3 mountains for you to get that epic Instagram post. Following on this hill your final stop of the leg is the hill of Penycloddiau where you can get a glimpse of one of Wales’ largest hillforts.
The final stage of this leg is all down hill, thankfully, so that you can enjoy the views of your ascent on your way down.
