It has been a really tough year for many tourism businesses during lockdown, Llangollen Railway being no exception.
The charity run steam heritage railway line runs along the picturesque River Dee. It travels between the popular tourist town of Llangollen ten miles along the Dee Valley which is part of an AONB and the market town of Corwen famous for its connections with Owain Glyndwr the last native Welsh Prince of Wales.
The original line closed in 1968 however with some vision from enthusiastic volunteers 60 feet of track was re-laid in 1975 and from this tentative beginning the railway has gone from strength to strength.
The railway is normally busy with events and weddings throughout the year as well as regular passenger trains. With restrictions of lockdown Liz Mc Guinness the general manager has had to really think outside of the box in order to cover the overheads of running this organisation. A donation page has been set up as well as selling of shares and a silent online auction, which has already raised £75,000.
