What to do in Llangollen
Llangollen is a quaint market town and is the heart of the Dee Valley. The best place to start is to have a wander around the streets and local shops (to get the souvenirs in early!) and explore some of the hills and take in the views.
Lunchtime (and dessert!)
The Corn Mill is a pub that is located on the edge of the river Dee that tears through the middle of the town. With a stylish but cosy feel and a great menu it makes for a great place for lunch and when the sun is out makes sure to get there early for a seat on the decking so you can have the river as your soundtrack.
For dessert a spot of Ice Cream is always a good bet, a visit to the Candy Cottage which is just by the bridge is a place where you can get tasty ice creams and sweet treats.
To walk off your lunch you can go down the riverside walk which leads to a park so that the kids can burn of the ice creams whilst you sit back and enjoy the sound of the river.
Highlights of Llangollen
Visits to the areas most popular heritage sites is a must. With Plas Newydd, Chirk Castle and Valle Crucis Abbey you will be spoilt for choice as these sites are close to Llangollen.
Or for a more adventurous journey you could ride the Llangollen Steam Train down to Corwen and back and experience the beauty of the Dee Valley (the kids will feel like their going to hogwarts!)
Or for the hikers in the family a small hike up to Castell Dinas Bran is the answer. With a spectacular view of the market town and surrounding landscape you will get why they built a castle on the hill for the strategic value and also it gave them the best view from their windows. Don not forget the camera if you are going up to Castell Dinas Bran…..you will regret it!
Llangollen is the start of an 11 mile world heritage site as well. It starts from the Horseshoe Falls and if you are brave enough then you can follow a path all the way to Shropshire and cross the North Wales landscape whilst never stepping off from a world heritage site. With the stunning ‘Stream in the Sky’ to cross as well at Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, you can be sure to find that epic selfie to show off your friends when you get back home.
