With Christmas on the way it’s another holiday with the kids and your task is to keep them entertained up until Santa delivers the new presents. Luckily there is plenty to do in North East Wales to keep the kids entertained and out of the house. Below are 5 things to do in the lead up to Christmas to keep your little elves happy.

Do something for free

A wise person once said ‘The best things in life are free’. We totally agree with this statement and the best things to do for free in North East Wales is to go out and explore the stunning landscape that we have on our doorstep. Whether it’s exploring the Clwydian Range, the Berwyn Range or the Dee Valley walks you’ll be sure to find that amazing view, and be sure to take the dog with you as our views aren’t for humans only (but remember to bring the lead and keep your dog on the lead at all times).

If you love Autumn as much as we do then you’ll have to make sure you visit our top 5 places to see the autumn leaves and trees…and of-course do not forget the camera to capture the memories.

Get out the bikes!

In some household there maybe new bikes on the horizon so this is the perfect time to wear out the old bikes on one last adventure. Choose one of the routes that are promoted by Ride North Wales that travels through our landscape and whizz through autumn for that much needed adrenaline kick. For a more trail based biking experience the best place to go is One Planet Adventure Centre in Llandegla. With many trails that cater for all ages and abilities you’ll be sure to feel like your going 100mph through the trees of Llandegla Forest whilst being safe in the knowledge that you are in a safe environment. Following your trail adventures you can have a cup of tea or hot chocolate at the Centre to bring down the buzz of the ride. If you are looking to hone your skills on a bmx then the Marsh Tracks on the coast at Rhyl is an award winning cycling centre that comprises of a 1.3 km closed circuit road cycling track and a national standard BMX race track featuring a Bensink start gate (exactly the same as the 2012 Olympic BMX track) and challenging jumps and berms. In addition to these two tracks a third brand new mountain bike track has recently been opened allowing people to test their skills!

Things to do even indoors

We know the weather can’t always be on your side…especially in Wales! However never fear there are many things to do even indoors in North East Wales. The place to go for an all in one experience is Eagles Meadow park in Wrexham where you can eat, shop and play in one location. With different outlets and an Odeon cinema and Ten Pin Bowling outlet you’ll be sure to make a full day of your visit to the largest town in North East Wales. Or to shelter from the rain but still discover our stunning landscape why not catch a heritage train from Llangollen Railway and pretend that you are off to Hogwarts (for Harry Potter fans!), but with great Christmas themed events the Llangollen Railway is truly a magical experience that  can be enjoyed by all whatever the weather!

Embrace our rivers

This ones for the adrenaline junkie family. Experience the thrill, and chill, of kayaking through the River Dee and get that wake up feeling when you are splashed with the natural Welsh waters of our river. With White Water Active you can plan that epic day out or purchase some vouchers that make a fantastic present for someone this Christmas. With a whole host of activities such as Gorge Walking through the Dee Valley, White water rafting through the town or even paint-balling you will be sure to find that epic day out in our corner of North Wales. For something a bit different why not try Stand Up Paddle Boarding  on the canal at Llangollen and see the beautiful scenery from a different perspective.

Get away from it all

If you just want a break from all the kids, your stresses or the Christmas shopping then you need a spa day. Luckily you will not have to travel far to get that relaxation as there are many spa’s in North East Wales that you might not have heard of. Some stunning spa’s such as Ruthin Castle which is a truly unique experience as it’s a spa that is set within the moat of the castle. Or for a more inclusive experience, book a day spa at Llangollen Spa in the Wild Pheasant Hotel. From the moment you arrive you will know that this is a place where you can truly relax as you breathe in the exquisite aromas and intoxicating smells that will envelop you. Llangollen Spa provide beauty and holistic treatments combined with the most luxurious techniques to completely nourish, re-balance and repair the face and body.
