If you’ve not heard of the Segway craze, welcome to what has been billed as the ‘greenest’ way to travel. Segway at Chirk Castle could just be one of the most fun ways to explore the local woodland and Welsh countryside!
Fishing
Whether you’re an experienced angler with years of practice under your belt, or just fancy trying your hand with a rod, the guys at Commonwood Fisheries can accommodate exactly your needs. There’s a variety of water for all types of angler and skill level, all set in lovely surroundings, with a café to boot!
Sailing
Although you might not immediately associate Wrexham with sailing, tucked away in Gresford is the Flash lake, home to Gresford Sailing Club. Whilst they are a club with many members and years of experience, they will always welcome visitors who wish to give sailing a go – just give them a buzz first to book in.
Conquer the castle!
One for the littlies, but if there was ever an adventure park to inspire budding knights, it’s the Welsh-castle themed offer at the Plassey holiday village. With climbing, slides and even a zip wire, it’s the perfect way to keep the kids happy (plus you get to browse the shops and enjoy a sneaky coffee and cake when they’re worn out from playing!)
Take a paddle
Obviously Wrexham’s pretty well-known now for its World Heritage site and Telford’s aqueduct. But did you know Chirk-based TNR coaching offer you the chance to canoe across the famous bridge? If that’s not your bag, they’ll happily introduce you to some archery, axe-throwing, bush craft and much more. Definitely worth a look if you fancy some outdoor adventure!
Climb the tower
One of the seven wonders of Wales, the steeple of St Giles Church can be seen from across the town centre. Did you know you can climb to the top to enjoy the fantastic view of the town it gives you? Tower Tours only happen during the fairer months, and you’ll need to book, but it’s well-worth the effort!

Satisfy your National Trust appetite
We’re spoilt for choice in Wrexham for our fix of the National Trust. Check out both Chirk Castle and Erddig for a whole host of events and goings-on. When it’s on your doorstep you don’t always think to look, but there really is something for the whole family at these gems of ours, from medieval re-enactments to celebrations of the humble apple, have a look!
Motor Safari
For those who fancy testing their skills in a 4×4, Wrexham can boast a purpose build off-road adventure park! Motor Safari offers a whole range of options and experiences, and can cater for individuals, groups, training and short breaks. As featured on many a TV programme -who’d have thought it!
A trip into town
We can’t talk about things to do in Wrexham without considering a visit to the town centre. Whether it’s a little piece of history in Wrexham Museum (not to mention cake in their lovely café); a cosy date night at Odeon cinema; a fun-filled afternoon at Ten-Pin or a mooch round one of the monthly Street Festivals, if you’ve not been in for a while, maybe it’s worth considering?
